About Us

To be a ray of light for people facing hardship. To make lives better through work. Giving that wish shape within the Specified Skilled Worker system: that is Office Ray’s work.

01Story

Our storyThe name “Ray”

Rays of light spreading from behind clouds in a pale sky

A ray of light changed a life.

In a time of hardship, our representative, Tanaka, met one person. Before Tanaka even asked for help, that person reached out, opened up new ways of seeing, and believed in a potential Tanaka could not yet believe in. That encounter changed a life.

The gratitude for how much that meant is still beyond words. In moments of doubt, it is always that day we return to. To do for others what that person once did — that is how Office Ray began.

To support others going through hardship, and to make lives better through work: she resolved to make this her life’s work, and in 2022, Office Ray set out as a Registered Support Organization. The “Ray” in our name means a beam of light.

A ray of light shows the way forward precisely in dark places. For people who come from overseas to work in Japan, the first year is often a time of feeling their way through the language and the systems. In that time, having reliable information and someone who will listen: that is the kind of concrete light we want to bring.

A place where people of different backgrounds can work together, learn from one another, and move toward shared goals. We want to bring that circle of light to as many people as we can.

02Mission

MissionOur role

Through the employment of foreign talent,
we light the way to companies’ futures.

At worksites short of hands, foreign talent has become a driving force that keeps businesses going. We believe whether that strength takes root is decided in the first few years after workers arrive.

Industry, size, and the people on the team differ from company to company. That is why, after reliably delivering the support required by law, we design support that fits each company’s worksite and each worker’s life. When workers stay, companies build up skills and gain the strength to welcome the next person. Keeping that cycle turning, together with companies, is the role we fulfill.

04Approach

How we thinkOur view of support

Thinking about the workplace
from the worker’s life.

Whether a worker keeps working at a workplace depends, we believe, not only on the job and wages but on their life as a whole: where they live, who they talk to, what they learn, and what future they can picture with their family. Office Ray provides support under the support plan from these four perspectives.

Living

Securing housing, setting up bank accounts and mobile phone contracts, accompanying workers to resident registration and social insurance procedures, and explaining the rules of daily life in Japan and what to do in a disaster. In the period right after arrival, we help lay the foundation for daily life.

Language

Advance guidance, consultations, and interviews are all provided in a language the worker fully understands. We also share information about Japanese classes and learning materials. Being understood helps workers know their own working conditions and speak up about problems early.

Family

With SSW (i) status, bringing family members to live in Japan is, in principle, not permitted. After moving up to SSW (ii), workers who meet the requirements can bring their spouse and children and live in Japan. Where and how to live with family is closely tied to how people choose where to work.

Future

At least once every three months, we hold interviews with the worker and with their supervisor, each separately, and let them know when to renew the period of stay and which documents are needed. We also offer consultation on the path to SSW (ii), so that both the worker and your company can see how the five years of SSW (i) lead on to what comes next.

Message from the Representative

Making lives better through work.

The Specified Skilled Worker system lets workers choose their employer. As more companies become the kind people choose, more workers’ lives are lit up. That is what I believe.
